How I Eat Clean On a Budget Part 1 – Grocery Shopping

This was one of the all time most requested blog posts!! I decided that I should break it up into sections to really dive in and give y’all a lot of information! This is also an area that I am super passionate about and really love to learn about.

We eat try and buy organic meat, dairy, and several fruits and veggies and then try to buy things with the least added sugar in them. I have learned so much from Just Ingredients Instagram Page. That is an amazing resource if you are wanting to learn more. Obviously I recommend doing your own research, but this is what is currently working for us!  Today I am going to talk about Costco, Whole Foods, Aldi, and my Favorite Thrive Market finds.

My Thoughts On Grocery Stores

Costco

I was skeptical about if paying the $60 was worth it for only two of us. However, we love it and have for sure gotten our moneys worth out of it.  I follow an Instagram account @costcodoesitagain that is constantly posting about new finds. Keep in mind each Costco can carry a variety of things.

My favorite Costco Finds

  • All of our meat – chicken, beef, ground turkey, bacon.
  • Sweet Potato
  • Avocado
  • Almond Butter/ Peanut Butter
  • Siete Chips
  • Frozen Fruit for Smoothies
  • Rotisserie Chicken
  • The Heavenly Chunk Bites taste just like cookie dough and are so good!!

If I only buy these things once to twice a month there then I save way more than the $60 I pay for the membership!

Whole Foods or Aldi

Whole foods or Aldi is where I get most of my everyday groceries. Aldi is DEFINITLEY cheaper, but there are a few times when I just really love the whole foods delivery. It is the only place i will do delivery from because they pick out the best produce. So for $10 they will deliver to your door and I have never have a poor experience with them picking out my groceries. With a newborn sometimes it was for sure worth the price. Now that Asher is getting older and I am getting out to shop with him more I try and go to aldi because they have amazing deals. The only problem is Aldi does not have everything I need to I normally have to stop at another place if I do go to Aldi. I’m not going to lie I love Whole Food though and since I use Costco and Thrive for pretty much everything I am only getting produce there and it is pretty affordable.

Thrive Market

The real MVP. I love love thrive. Think about it as an online Costco, but not in bulk and great prices. If I had to choose between Thrive and Costco I genuinely would pick Thrive Market.

The membership price is $59.95 a year or $9.95 a month. You can order as often or frequent as you want, but there are no requirements other than the membership

I made a checklist that you can print off of my favorite thrive market essentials. Think online Whole Foods at Costco Prices and not in such big of bulk. This is why I love it because with 2 people sometimes I don’t want the HUGE sizes or do I have room to store them! My mom loves buying from there too. I have also heard great things about their snacks for babies, which I’m sure we will love as Asher gets older. Hey Madi Nelson has an instagram highlight with some of her favorites!

My moms additions to this list are –

  • Chomps beef sticks
  • No sugar dried cranberries (I think patience brand) I use them in chicken salad.
  • Tessemaes and primal
  • Kitchen dressing.

I have also heard great things about their clean organic wines! Let me know if you have tried them and what you think in the comments!
